Job summary

Insight Global in Charleston, SC seeks a Distribution Design Engineer to plan, design, and oversee underground conduit systems delivering electrical power from substations to customers.

You will ensure designs meet utility standards, safety codes, and constructability while supporting downtown Charleston infrastructure projects, urban distribution initiatives, and collaboration with project managers, field crews, municipalities, and utility stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Candidates from utilities or underground distribution design firms are highly suitable.
• Experience with urban electric infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and support underground electrical distribution projects in urban environments.
• Develop and modify duct bank layouts and underground conduit systems.
• Review designs for compliance with utility standards, safety requirements, and local regulations.
• Coordinate with project managers, field personnel, municipalities, and utility stakeholders.
• Evaluate existing underground infrastructure and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support construction activities by providing technical guidance and resolving design-related issues.
• Prepare engineering documentation, drawings, calculations, and project deliverables.
• Assist with projects located throughout downtown Charleston and surrounding urban service territories.
