Job summary

Commonwealth seeks an Underground Electrical Engineer to lead design and execution of underground transmission and distribution projects. You will manage multi-discipline design, oversee schedules and budgets, and ensure compliance with standards.

Responsibilities include data collection, modeling, permit coordination, and producing AutoCAD/MicroStation packages. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and consultants to meet client requirements and help secure new contracts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• 4+ years of direct experience in electric utility distribution engineering.
• Proven track record designing overhead and/or underground electric systems.
• Familiarity with utility design standards, safety codes (NESC) and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency with CAD/design software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, DDS).
• EIT Certification, PE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical engineering for multi-discipline underground electrical transmission and distribution projects.
• Manage engineering design schedules, budget performance, and delivery of high-quality solutions.
• Apply and enforce Underground Electric Design, Construction, and client standards.
• Oversee data collection and system modeling for underground infrastructure engineering.
• Make project execution decisions on technical compliance and contract commitments.
• Design underground systems in alignment with regulations.
• Create comprehensive AutoCAD and MicroStation drawing packages.
• Collaborate with designers, engineers, and external consultants.
• Analyze regional requirements to customize system designs.
• Coordinate permit acquisition through authorities having jurisdiction.
• Accelerate construction workflows by reviewing RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
• Estimate project costs and author technical content for RFPs and proposals.
• Support Business Development to secure new utilities contracts.
• Maintain compliance with quality management programs.
