Job summary

Commonwealth Associates, Inc. seeks an Underground Engineer to lead design for underground transmission and distribution projects. You will oversee multi-discipline engineering, schedules, budgets, and quality while ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.

You will coordinate permitting, specifications, procurement, and construction support, using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS to deliver robust design packages. PE is preferred, with EIT also valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical is required.
• 4+ years of direct experience in electric utility distribution engineering.
• Proven track record designing overhead and/or underground electric systems.
• Strong knowledge of utility design standards and safety codes (e.g., NESC).
• Proficiency with industry CAD and design software: AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, DDS.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical engineering for underground transmission and distribution projects.
• Manage engineering design schedules and budget performance.
• Ensure compliance with design standards and regulatory requirements (NESC and others).
• Coordinate site permits, specifications, procurement, and construction support.
• Create AutoCAD and MicroStation drawing packages and review subcontractor work.

Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical

EIT Certification

Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
