Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc is seeking an Arborist for municipal tree care. The role covers installation, maintenance, and removal of trees, including climbing and operating specialized equipment to ensure safe, healthy urban trees. After-hours emergency response is part of the rotation.
Qualifications include a high school diploma and at least one year of general or skilled labor experience (6 months in arboriculture). A Florida CDL-B with air brakes and ISA certifications are favorable.
Salary $21.91 - $31.12/hour; $3,797.73 - $5,394.13/month; $45,572.80 - $64,729.60/year
This is semi-skilled work involving care and maintenance of municipal trees. Bargaining unit position.
An employee in thisclass is responsible for performing skilled tasks of a hazardous natureinvolving Arboriculture including the installation, care, maintenance, andremoval of municipal trees and stumps. Under general supervision, employeeperforms assignments, which are of moderate difficulty requiring arboriculturalknowledge, exercise of initiative, and independent judgment. Work is reviewedthrough observation and results obtained.
Works on a team responsiblefor installation, care, maintenance, and removal of municipal trees; climbstrees using rope and saddle; removes dead, broken and undesired branches ortrees; prunes trees for needed clearance; operates and maintains automotiveequipment such as trash crane, dump truck, stump grinder, and aerial lifts;uses hand tools, pruning shears, chainsaws, and similar equipment in pruning andremoval operations.Responds toafter-hours and weekend tree emergencies on rotation. Member of EmergencyResponse Center #2 Operations team.Loads and unloadsheavy items, including supplies, equipment, and materials manually in order tocomplete assigned duties; performs Maintenance of Traffic to provide a saferoute for traffic and work zone for the City crew.Performs related workas required.
Workingknowledge of: the practice ofArboriculture including tree pruning methods and techniques; municipal streetlocations; the use, care and maintenance of tools and equipment utilized intree maintenance; occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.Abilityto: understand andfollow oral and written instructions; climb and work at heights; perform workrequiring physical strength and endurance; operate a motor vehicle andarboriculture equipment listed above; demonstrate knots used in arboricultureand explain their use.Skillin: use and care oftools and equipment used in Arboriculture operations.Special considerationfor backhoe and forklift operation in addition to equipment listed above.
Ability to lift 40-60 lbs., mostly standing and outdoors. Requires some use of computer,typing and viewing a monitor.
Completion of High School and one (1) year of experience in general or skilled laborincluding six (6) monthsin Arboriculture (tree pruning and removal experience); or an equivalentcombination of training and experience.
Valid FloridaCommercial driver’s license, Class "B" with Air Brakes.Special consideration for ISA Certifications including,but not limited to: ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker ClimberSpecialist, and/or ISA Certified Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist.
Evaluationofeducation and experience. Drug testing is included in allpre-employment processing.
Employeesmay be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidaysand overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergencydeclaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work inpreparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
