Job summary

Buro Happold invites driven interns to join the Urban Development team for the 2027 summer, with roles in energy, carbon, water and waste analysis, strategic planning, and client presentations. Based in Los Angeles or New York, you will work on high-profile projects and gain hands-on experience across sustainability, resilience, and climate action initiatives.

You’ll contribute to data visualization, web dashboards, and multidisciplinary collaboration, supported by a network of industry experts

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental sciences, urban planning or policy, civil or energy engineering, transportation planning, or similar.
• Interest in sustainable development and the built environment.
• Able to communicate thoughts and technical ideas accessibly.
• Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Develop energy, carbon, water and waste analysis, studying opportunities to reduce impact and resource consumption, as well as predicting and measuring outcomes.
• Participate in complex strategic planning projects, including sustainability, resilience, and climate action and adaptation plans.
• Create client PowerPoint presentations, memos, reports, graphics, maps, technical analysis, and presentations.
• Investigate preferred site strategies for utilities, stormwater, civil infrastructure, and multi‑modal mobility.
• Assess renewable energy production feasibility, research viable technologies, and available funding and incentive opportunities.
• Develop client communication and data visualization materials including PowerPoint presentations, memos, reports, and web‑based dashboards.
• Work alongside experienced engineers, architects, planners, and sustainability consultants in a team that values diverse perspectives
