The Pennington School is seeking an Upper School Mathematics Teacher, who also teaches in the Cervone Center for Learning, for the 2025-26 academic year. The optimal candidate will have proven success with teaching mathematics to students in Grades 9-12 as well as experience teaching students with learning differences. This instructor will contribute to curricular design and implementation, and facilitate experiences for student enrichment in mathematics, extracurricular activities, and/or other areas assigned by the School.
Essential Duties
- Teach students with a range of abilities in Upper School math courses that may include algebra, geometry, algebra 2, statistics, and other math classes as needed
- Embrace student-centered teaching practices and backward design in curriculum planning
- Plan and implement differentiated instruction for students in Cervone Center for Learning mathematics classes.
- Develop individual excellence in every student, moving the student toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding
- Encourage critical, collaborative, and independent thinking during problem-solving on assignments, projects, tests, and other graded assessments
- Demonstrate warmth, collegiality, humor, and industry in interactions with students, colleagues, and parents
- Lead or participate in 2 extracurricular activities and/or athletic endeavors
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in math or related discipline; master's degree preferred
- Excellent mathematical skills
- 2-3 years of teaching experience; independent school teaching is a plus
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm for working with students in and out of the classroom
- Desire to be an active member of a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Interest in a boarding school environment
- Ability to work with a variety of learning styles
- A positive attitude, a growth mindset, and a sense of humor
- An understanding of the specific needs of students with learning disabilities is essential, as well as a background in education and experience working with students with disabilities
- Desire to work high-school-age students with a focus on individual needs
- The belief that all students can learn if given appropriate services, supports, and accommodations
- Flexibility, collegiality, and a commitment to experiential professional development are important to this role
