Job summary

The Potomac School in McLean, VA seeks a Long-Term Substitute Upper School Learning Specialist (Grades 9-12) for December 2026 through May 2027. This full-time role supports students through a coaching model, collaborating with families and faculty to promote independence and academic success.

Responsibilities include managing a 25-30 student caseload, interpreting psychoeducational evaluations, developing IAPs, and assisting with testing accommodations and the Upper School Testing Center.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred in special education or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in learning support or related field.
• Experience with ADHD and other learning differences in ambitious curricula.
• Ability to read/interpret psychoeducational reports and develop IAPs.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of 25-30 Upper School students with coaching model.
• Provide individualized learning support and regular meetings.
• Collaborate with students, families, and faculty to remove barriers to success.
• Advise faculty on student learning needs and effective classroom strategies.
• Communicate progress to families and guide routines for home support.
• Participate on the Student Support Team (SST) for planning next steps.
• Read psychoeducational/neuropsychological evaluations to develop IAPs.
• Assist with implementing accommodations and Upper School Testing Center processes.
• Fulfill other duties to support the Upper School.
