Doane Academy, an independent day school for grades pre-K-12 located in Burlington, NJ, seeks a full-time Upper School English teacher for the 2025-26 school year. This individual will have the opportunity to bring our school mission to life by leading an exploration of modern and classical literature and by developing students’ fluency and voice as writers.

Qualifying Education and Experience

Required:

• Experience with and/or training in high school-level instruction
• Enthusiasm for inspiring students to understand themselves and the world around them through reading and writing

Preferred:

• Experience teaching Advanced Placement English
• Undergraduate concentration and/or a Master’s degree in English
• Undergraduate concentration and/or Master’s degree in curriculum or instruction
• Professional experience in an independent school setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions

• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural responsiveness, and to Doane’s DEI aims
• Willingness to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with varied abilities
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Well-developed and effective organization and communication skills

Full time faculty teach 4 classes and serve as academic advisor to 6 - 10 students.
