The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools across Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States, with schools receiving 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past decade.

The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a representative of the Catholic Church, the Teacher serves as a role model and fulfills various responsibilities, acting as both a ministerial employee and a communicator of the Church’s message to students.

The Teacher is hired by and reports directly to the principal. The Teacher agrees to adhere to the policies of the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Office of Catholic Schools, and the local school, working collaboratively to promote Catholic education. The Teacher embodies the ministry of Catholic education and the Church’s teachings at the local school level.

Saint Anne Catholic School seeks a passionate, student-centered ELA Teacher to provide small-group instruction in intermediate/middle school grades. The role involves supporting students in developing literacy skills such as phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. The ideal candidate loves reading, is nurturing, collaborative, and data-informed, with literacy development experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Education, English, or Literacy; Master’s or Reading Specialist endorsement preferred but not required
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Experience in literacy instruction for intermediate or upper elementary students
  • Strong understanding of ELA standards, literacy intervention strategies, and developmental literacy
  • Familiarity with literacy platforms such as i-Ready, IXL, or similar tools
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, but not required

General Responsibilities:

  • Teach and act in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings
  • Serve as a role model for religious formation and as a representative of the Church in the school
  • Align teaching with the mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Catholic school
  • Complete Catholic identity formation training and other professional development mandated by the Archdiocese
  • Participate in religious instruction, ceremonies, rituals, and activities as directed
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, colleagues, and the principal
  • Engage in professional development programs required by the Archdiocese and the school
  • Perform teaching duties assigned by the principal
  • Attend faculty and staff meetings
  • Collaborate with staff on school activities and projects
  • Maintain accurate attendance and academic records
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, and secure learning environment
  • Participate in annual performance reviews
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Represent the school positively at events and in the community

Requirements and Preferences:

  • Practicing Catholic (required for religion teachers)
  • Compliance with safe environment requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid state licensure preferred but not mandatory
  • Completion of Catholic identity formation training

The Archdiocese offers a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary ranges of $37,000 - $67,000 for lay teachers and $34,000 - $61,000 for religious teachers, based on qualifications and experience.
