Job summary

Oakland University is seeking a Campus Maintenance and Trades staff member to transport furniture and equipment across campus and off-campus as needed. The role requires operating vehicles and equipment to assist loading and unloading of materials while interacting with diverse campus stakeholders.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma, ability to lift up to 70 lbs, reliable reading and following procedures, and a valid driver’s license.

Salary Range/Pay Rate $16.27/hr starting, $16.77/hr after probation

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must by physically able to safely perform all normal job duties.
• Must be able to handle large shipments of heavy supplies and the loading and unloading of trucks including frequent lifting requiring the execution up to seventy (70) pounds.
• Ability to read, understand and follow routine verbal and written instructions and procedures.
• Interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with various levels of the university community in addition to outside vendors.
• A valid vehicle operator’s license and a driving record acceptable to the university for coverage by the university’s insurance carrier.

Desired Qualifications

• Previous experience in stockroom and/or shipping and receiving.
• Knowledge of inventory control, stock quantities, moving/set-up and order systems.

Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.

Position Purpose

Transports furniture, office equipment, and related items within the university campus and off-campus as needed. Operates vehicles and mechanical equipment as required to facilitate loading, unloading and transport of materials, as appropriate to the area of operation. Routinely interacts with all constituents in the campus community.
