Job summary

The University of Toledo seeks University Law Enforcement Officers to perform policing, safety and security functions for the campus. Officers protect life, property and maintain peace and order while delivering a range of safety services to support the university community.

Candidates must meet strict qualifications including age, fitness, drug testing, education/experience, psychological screening, and successful completion of testing and interviews.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must meet physical fitness standards as determined by medical/fitness tests.
• Must submit to urinalysis drug testing.
• Education or equivalent experience as stated above.
• Must pass psychological examination.
• Must pass written and oral tests/interviews.
• Must agree to background examination.
• Must have valid driver's license and comply with driving policies.
• Ideal candidate is professional with strong work ethic and positive attitude.
• All officers start at entry level and are on probation for 1 year.

Job Description:

University Law Enforcement Officers are the principal agentsresponsible for carrying out policing, safety and securityfunctions of the University of Toledo Police Department. Thesefunctions include protection of life and property, preservation ofthe peace and good order of the community, and the furnishing ofvarious services to facilitate the smooth operation of theUniversity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• 1. Must be at least 21 years old.
• 2. Must have weight proportionate to height and have a level ofphysical condition and fitness satisfactory to fulfilling theduties of a Law Enforcement Officer as determined by medical andfitness tests prescribed by the Chief of Police.
• 3. Must submit to a urinalysis test to determine the unlawful useof drugs.
• 4. A minimum of 96 quarter hours of college-level academic creditsfrom an accredited university or college, having earned a gradepoint average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or education may besubstituted with two (2) years of continuous active full-time lawenforcement experience (as a state-certified peace officer) with acertified law enforcement agency preferred.
• 5. Must successfully pass a psychological examination by qualifiedpsychological professionals.
• 6. Must pass the necessary written and oral testing andinterviewing processes.
• 7. Must agree to a thorough background examination.
• 8. Possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under theUniversity’s driving policies.
• 9. Desired characteristics of the individual selected for theposition of University Law Enforcement Officer include but are notlimited to: An individual who is professional; has a strong andproactive work ethic; has a positive attitude.
• 10. All Law Enforcement Officers will start at the entry level andwill be on probationary status for a period of one year, excludingtime spent in an approved basic training academy.
