Qualifications

This is a university faculty position with academic rank based upon the appointee’s academic and experiential qualifications. The position is eligible for tenure-track. Instructor positions are temporary appointments, renewable annually under a separate contract, at the sole discretion of the University. This individual will serve as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for Weber State University’s Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program. The program welcomed its inaugural cohort in Fall 2026 and is progressing through the ACOTE initial accreditation process.
This is a leadership position that requires extensive professional skills, the ability to serve as a core faculty member, and a desire to serve in multiple roles within the OTA program. This position will include open communication and frequent collaboration with the Program Director and faculty to implement, assess, and refine the curriculum and prepare program documentation for the university, ACOTE , and other applicable entities.

The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator ( AFWC ) is responsible for coordinating multiple ongoing projects and communicating effectively with community partners, the Program Director, and other program and departmental faculty. Specific responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, recruiting, developing, and evaluating new and existing fieldwork sites. The faculty member will be responsible for initiating, facilitating, and monitoring affiliation agreements, clinical training agreements, and memoranda of understanding in collaboration with appropriate university offices. The AFWC will utilize a clinical education management platform to request compliance documentation (e.g., immunization records, background checks, drug test results, trainings, etc.) from students, coordinate student placements, monitor fieldwork hours and patient logs, and assign fieldwork evaluations to students and fieldwork educators. They will collect and interpret fieldwork data for quality assessment and improvement of the fieldwork program and curriculum. The AFWC will be responsible for developing and maintaining clinical fieldwork policies and procedures for program compliance with ACOTE Standards. The individual will create and implement Level I and Level II Fieldwork placements to ensure they align with the program’s curriculum design. They will also ensure that students meet and maintain requirements for all site placements. This person will maintain fieldwork educator handbooks, student manuals, and fieldwork course syllabi.
This faculty member will collaborate with fieldwork sites and fieldwork educators to create learning experiences specific to the fieldwork context, monitor student progress during a fieldwork rotation, provide mediation as needed, and advise fieldwork educators working with struggling students. The individual will contribute to site quality by providing mentorship and educational opportunities for fieldwork educators to improve their supervisory and instructional skills. This person will identify new and emerging practice areas and design programs that support student learning in these areas. The academic fieldwork coordinator will need the ability to travel to fieldwork, clinical, and community sites as needed.
This individual will teach courses in the OTA program and may also teach courses in the Rehabilitation Sciences undergraduate program. This faculty member will instruct, mentor, provide feedback, and evaluate students within their areas of expertise and interest, and will ensure the availability of remedial instruction. The individual will also be responsible for ongoing curricular assessment and active participation in the development, initiation, and incorporation of instructional experiences within the curriculum design. This faculty member will participate in the Department of Athletic Training and Occupational Therapy by serving on department, college, and university-level committees as time allows.
Participation in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of OTAs within academic, lay, and professional communities is encouraged.
Will perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Current license in good standing as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant in the state of Utah, or eligibility for Utah licensure with licensure obtained by the employment start date.
• Hold a minimum of a master’s degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE -recognized institutional accrediting agency.
• A minimum of two years of documented professional experience in occupational therapy, including clinical practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant. This experience must include:
  • Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or as an occupational therapy assistant.
  • Professional experience as a fieldwork educator or documentation of training in the roles and responsibilities of a fieldwork educator.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree ( OTD , PhD, or EdD)
• Five years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.
• 2 years of educational and administrative experience in an academic setting.
• Demonstrated abilities in teaching and curriculum development.
• Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Strong critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with the use of computers for organization, word processing, and communication.
• Demonstrated experience in community partnership development, program evaluation, data analysis, and outcomes assessment.
• Experience coordinating Level I and/or Level II fieldwork.
• Knowledge of ACOTE standards and accreditation processes.
• Experience supporting students and fieldwork educators through performance concerns.
• Experience using clinical education or fieldwork management systems.
• Established connections with hospitals, clinics, and occupational therapists/OTAs along the Wasatch Front and Northern Utah.
