Job Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track position starting July 1, 2027. We seek a broadly trained computational chemist whose expertise may include, but is not limited to, physical chemistry and molecular modeling (quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics), cheminformatics and data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and computational approaches to areas such as biomolecular modeling, drug discovery, materials science, catalysis, or electrochemistry.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and integration of computational approaches throughout the undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry curriculum by incorporating appropriate computational, data‑science, and AI‑based tools into introductory and upper‑division courses. The candidate will also be expected to develop an undergraduate‑centered research program that provides students with meaningful opportunities to apply computational methods to contemporary problems in chemistry and/or biochemistry. We particularly welcome candidates whose research and teaching can strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations and expand opportunities for students to gain experience with computational and data‑driven approaches in chemistry.

Job Duties
  • Teach lower‑and‑upper‑division undergraduate courses (lectures and labs) based on the candidate’s interest/expertise and department needs.
  • Establish an active and sustained research program with an emphasis on engaging undergraduate students in computational chemistry.
  • Serve on department and university committees.
Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field completed before July 2027. ABD candidates considered if the degree is completed before July 2027.
  • Research experience in computational chemistry, quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, cheminformatics, chemical applications of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven dedication to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the department, college, and university’s advancement of student success.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high‑quality research and the ability to integrate research interests into undergraduate‑level projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain undergraduate mentoring relationships, including mentoring students of all backgrounds
  • Track record of collaborative professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A Successful Candidate Will:
  • Consistently work to expand their application of evidence‑based pedagogies to their teaching.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues on course and laboratory design.
  • Establish and maintain a productive undergraduate research program.
