Job summary

The Department of Child and Family Studies at Weber State University is inviting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The role focuses on a full-time undergraduate/graduate teaching load of 12 hours per semester across Family Science, Family Life Education, Human Development, and Marriage and Family Therapy, with expectations of research, advising, and committee service.

Preferred candidates hold clinical training and work experience.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy, Family Studies, Family Science, Human Development and Family Studies, or related field (a strong ABD may be considered if degree completed by Aug 15, 2027).
  • Able to teach in support of the department curriculum designed around NCFR content areas and CFLE competencies.
  • Able to teach in support of the department curriculum, designed around AAMFT training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including GenEd and Family Studies.
  • Publish research and advise/mentor students; participate in committees.
  • Develop a new graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Job Description

The Department of Child and Family Studies at Weber StateUniversity is seeking applications for a tenure-track AssistantProfessor position. The tenure-track position includes a full-timeundergraduate/graduate teaching load of 12 hours per semester inFamily Science, Family Life Education, Human Development, andMarriage and Family Therapy with expectations of publication,student advising, and participation in departmental, university,and community committees. Preference will be given to applicantswith clinical training and work experience.

Job Duties

Duties include teaching a wide variety of undergraduate andgraduate courses, which may include GenEd Courses and FamilyStudies courses, publishing research, serving on multiplecommittees, advising and mentoring students, and developing a newprogram in graduate studies in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in either Marriage and Family Therapy, Family Studies,Family Science, Human Development and Family Studies, or closelyrelated field (a strong ABD may be considered if degree completedby August 15, 2027).
  • The candidate must be able to teach in support of thedepartment curriculum designed around the NCFR content areas andcriteria for training Certified Family Life Educators and providedocumentation of competencies as they relate to the 10 CFLE contentareas.
  • The candidate must be able to teach in support of thedepartment curriculum, designed around the American Association ofMarriage and Family Therapists in training graduate students(AAMFT).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate or graduatestudents.
  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with strong evidenceof commitment to providing quality service.
  • A therapist with a background in mental health and/orprofessional practices working with infants through adults.
  • A degree in Family Science and/or Education.
  • A background in trauma-informed teaching and education inmultiple areas.
  • A willingness to teach general education courses andcollaborative WSU/Honors courses.
  • Related community service and experience with underrepresentedgroups is desired.
  • A demonstrated research agenda and interest in involvingstudents in research activities.
  • A track record of scholarly publication and the potential forgrant procurement are desired.
