Job Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Weber StateUniversity invites applications for a tenure-track positionstarting July 1, 2027. We seek a broadly trained computationalchemist whose expertise may include, but is not limited to,physical chemistry and molecular modeling (quantum chemistry andmolecular dynamics), cheminformatics and data science, machinelearning and artificial intelligence, and computational approachesto areas such as biomolecular modeling, drug discovery, materialsscience, catalysis, or electrochemistry.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development andintegration of computational approaches throughout theundergraduate chemistry and biochemistry curriculum byincorporating appropriate computational, data-science, and AI-basedtools into introductory and upper-division courses. The candidatewill also be expected to develop an undergraduate-centered researchprogram that provides students with meaningful opportunities toapply computational methods to contemporary problems in chemistryand/or biochemistry. We particularly welcome candidates whoseresearch and teaching can strengthen interdisciplinarycollaborations and expand opportunities for students to gainexperience with computational and data-driven approaches inchemistry.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenure-trackAssistant Professor, and will be expected to:

  • Teach lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses (lecturesand labs) based on the candidate's interest/expertise anddepartment needs.
  • Establish an active and sustained research program with anemphasis on engaging undergraduate students in computationalchemistry.
  • Serve on department and university committees.
Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related fieldcompleted before July 2027. ABD candidates considered if the degreeis completed before July 2027.
  • Research experience in computational chemistry, quantumchemistry, molecular dynamics, cheminformatics, chemicalapplications of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or aclosely related field.

  • Proven dedication to excellence in teaching at theundergraduate level.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the department,college, and university's advancement of student success.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high-quality research and theability to integrate research interests into undergraduate-levelprojects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain undergraduate mentoringrelationships, including mentoring students of all backgrounds
  • Track record of collaborative professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
