Join to apply for the Universal Technician I role at Buckeye Broadband

The Universal Technician I is the first step in a progression to a Universal Technician III. This role requires transitioning into higher levels within specified timeframes.

The Universal Technician I is responsible for all aspects of the installation of the CATV drop system from the tap to the TV in customer’s homes. This includes the outside drop, activation of the drop, proper NEC grounding, proper signal termination, placement of all electronics in the home including splitters, set top converters, modems, and phones, customer education on specified home premise equipment, and wreck out and removal of abandoned cable on the home.

There are no direct reports to this position.

Essential Functions
  1. Timely and accurate completion of all installation work orders assigned daily;
  2. Performing basic installation tasks related to BAU, including new connect, reconnect, disconnect, converter installation (HD/DVR/DIG), wall fish, additional outlets, rewires, and customer education;
  3. Maintaining a working relationship with managers and maintenance personnel in assigned areas;
  4. Performing basic installation related to BEX, including HSD and Wireless;
  5. Performing installation related to Buckeye Phone, including alarm configurations, entry doors, Arris Whole Home (BMG) product, and TiVo;
  6. Reporting system problems or damages promptly;
  7. Troubleshooting and diagnostics of service problems;
  8. Driving a company vehicle to job sites;
  9. Operating equipment safely, including ladders and bucket trucks;
  10. Completing work orders clearly and timely;
  11. Maintaining inventory of cable equipment;
  12. Handling customer payments in the field;
  13. Reading cable blueprints;
  14. Using proper phone etiquette;
  15. Following company policies and safety guidelines;
  16. Performing other duties as needed.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and spell English properly
  • Physical ability to climb poles and ladders
  • Physical ability to lift 60 pounds
  • Attention to detail
  • Math skills to 12th grade level (preferred)
  • 1 year of telecommunications experience (preferred)
