Job Summary

Essential Job Functions

The Universal Technician I:

  • Plans network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications;
  • Prepares an installation diagram;
  • Completes the basic installation of new connects, reconnects, disconnects, customer premise equipment (HD/DVR/DIG), wall fish, additional outlets, and rewires as assigned daily in an accurate and efficient manner;
  • Installs HSD and wireless;
  • Installs fiber to the home, including Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and streaming devices;
  • Reads system design maps;
  • Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages and testing network back-up procedures;
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables and recording configuration diagrams and specifications;
  • Employs basic troubleshooting and diagnostic strategies to resolve service issues;
  • Verifies service by testing circuits and equipment;
  • Identifies, corrects, and/or escalates issues to the Technical Operations Supervisor and/or the dispatch team;
  • Drives a company vehicle to and from various job sites;
  • Safely operates all equipment essential to complete work, including but not limited to extension ladders and bucket trucks;
  • Maintains inventory of all equipment in their possession;
  • Conducts inventory on supplies, places orders and verifies receipts;
  • Follows the company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO and safety guidelines, at all times;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent – required
  • Formal electronics training, NCTI, SCTE Certification or equivalent - preferred
  • 12th grade level math skills - preferred
  • 1 year of previous experience in the Telecommunications industry – preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking, kneeling, standing, climbing poles and ladders, stooping, sitting, driving, hearing, talking, vision (close, distant, color, depth perception, adjust focus), and use of hands and fingers. Light lifting of 75 lbs. is occasionally needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The Universal Technician I is a full time, non-exempt position.
  • The Universal Technician I position is Monday through Friday, or Tuesday through Saturday. Schedules are subject to change and could include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • The Universal Technician I is required to drive on the job as needed and is subject to regular MVR checks. He/she must maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record the meets company standards for an insurable driver at all times. Any time these conditions are not met, he/she must not drive on the job and must immediately report it to their supervisor.
  • The majority of work is completed off company premises and outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to obtain and continuously maintain compliance status for all applicable governmental regulations, including but not limited to, Department of Transportation (DOT) qualifications and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) regulations.
  • The Company is a drug-free workplace. All employees are required to adhere to the Company’s drug-free workplace programs and policies. Pre-employment testing is mandatory along with random testing throughout continued employment.
  • The duties assigned, the hours worked, and the status of this position is subject to change as the needs of the company changes.
