Job summary

Bethany Christian Services seeks a Unit Supervisor to lead Youth Specialist teams in Grand Rapids, MI. This on-site, full-time role focuses on supervision, staffing, and program operations within the Domestic Programs unit.

You will ensure policy compliance, oversee budgets, and support staff development while upholding the agency’s values and mission.

Qualifications

• Minimum education/experience as specified in the posting.
• Pass a federal fingerprint screening if required.
• Must pass TB test and immunization requirements.
• Must be 21+ with valid U.S. driver’s license and 3+ years driving experience.
• Pass background checks including MSR and criminal history.

How Your Role Makes a Difference

• Manage, direct, and lead Youth Specialist(s) and facilitate weekly meetings;
• Provide weekly individual and team supervision to supervisory staff;
• Cultivate a positive, team centered work environment;
• Participate in weekly staff and resident meetings;
• Responsible for the financials, budget, and spending of the homes;
• Ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures for staff evaluations, conference/training requests, timekeeping, and reimbursement requests;
• Assist in the development and maintenance of the program's operating manual;
• Hire, on-board, and train staff effectively to ensure efficient operations;
• Oversee scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate coverage at all times;
• Stay abreast of all agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements for social services;
• Essential job responsibilities may vary based on the specific needs of each program/department;
• May be required or asked to participate in a Bethany sponsored event;
• Complete other duties as assigned.

What Will Make You Successful

• Must have one of the following:
• High School Diploma and four (4) years of work experience in a child caring institution or;
• Two (2) years of college from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of work experience in a child caring institution or;
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of work experience in a child caring institution;
• Successfully pass a federal fingerprint screening may be required;
• Provide weekly, unannounced rounds in the classrooms and/or all areas where children congregate to ensure safety, wellbeing, and best practice of care in these areas;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a multi-disciplinary treatment team;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Must be able to pass required medical examinations and have the physical ability to fulfill the essential job functions, including physical restraints of a resident;
• Successfully pass an annual TB test and document preference to receive or decline Hepatitis immunization;
• Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
• Must be 21 years old with a valid driver's license with at least 3 years of driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany;
• Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;
• Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
• Exhibit integrity and good moral character to provide appropriate care;
• Possess the relevant experience and/or qualifications to work with these clients and clients with special needs; and,
• Be properly trained and licensed, as necessary.
• Must be able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route:
  • TDap or Tdap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one Tdap dose in adulthood.
  • Results of medical examination (as required by State Licensing, including results of TB tests and immunization records).
• Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
