Job summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a Unit Coordinator to support RN-led care. The role involves patient chart management, greeting and processing admissions, and ensuring smooth unit operations within a day shift schedule.

This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and CPR certification, with health care exposure preferred. Training and precepting duties may be part of the role, with potential for benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a unit coordinator or clerk course preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and maintains patient charts and medical records.
• Operates telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube and related devices.
• Assists with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport and discharge.
• Maintains unit supplies; orders and stocks as needed and ensures regulatory standards.
• Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of staff.
• Coordinates transport of medications from Pharmacy to practitioners or storage areas.
• Initiates Code Blue/Medical Assist/ACT and communicates required information.

Base pay $19.10/hr plus applicable shift differentials. Benefits eligible.

Job Description

Essential Functions

• Monitors and maintains patient charts and medical records.
• Operates communication systems including but not limited to telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube, and other advanced communication technology devices.
• Assists with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport, and/or discharge of patients as assigned.
• Maintains unit and office supplies, ordering and stocking as needed. Ensures unit areas and rooms are maintained according to regulatory standards.
• Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
• Coordinates the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners or from tube system to secured medication storage room.
• Initiates Code Blue/Medical Assist/ACT in emergency situations and ensures the communication of all required information to the appropriate staff.

Education Requirement

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Successful completion of an approved unit coordinator or clerk course, preferred.

Certifications

Current CPR certification (BLS-Health Care Provider), required.

Skills

• Basic computer and technologyskills required.
• Excellent customer service, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience

Previous health care experience, preferred.
