Job summary

Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, is seeking a part-time Unit Coordinator on the day shift. The role runs 7:00am–3:30pm with 0.6 FTE (24 hours/week) or 0.8 FTE (32 hours/week) and every other weekend.

Starting pay is $19.10/hr with a $1.80/hr weekend premium, commensurate with experience, and under RN supervision. The position involves secretarial and environmental duties using current technology, monitoring records, assisting with admissions and transfers, and supporting daily

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of an approved unit coordinator or clerk course preferred.
• Current CPR certification (BLS-Health Care Provider) required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain patient charts and medical records.
• Operate communication systems including telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube, and other devices.
• Assist with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport, and discharge as assigned.
• Maintain unit and office supplies, ensuring regulatory standards are met.
• Act as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
• Coordinate transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to practitioners or storage.
• Initiate Code Blue/Medical Assist in emergencies and communicate information to staff.

Essential Functions

• Monitors and maintains patient charts and medical records.
• Operates communication systems including but not limited to telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube, and other advanced communication technology devices.
• Assists with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport, and/or discharge of patients as assigned.
• Maintains unit and office supplies, ordering and stocking as needed. Ensures unit areas and rooms are maintained according to regulatory standards.
• Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
• Coordinates the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners or from tube system to secured medication storage room.
• Initiates Code Blue/Medical Assist/ACT in emergency situations and ensures the communication of all required information to the appropriate staff.

Education Requirement

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Successful completion of an approved unit coordinator or clerk course, preferred.

Certifications

Current CPR certification (BLS-Health Care Provider), required.

Skills

• Basic computer and technologyskills required.
• Excellent customer service, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience

Previous health care experience, preferred.
