The Unit Business Officer provides professional financial leadership for the Department of Athletics at North Carolina A&T State University. The position reports to and is accountable to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, and serves on the Director of Athletics’ leadership team as the department’s dedicated finance partner. The Unit Business Officer develops, monitors, and forecasts the Athletics operating budget, produces financial reporting and analysis, and advises the Director of Athletics on the financial implications of operational decisions, including new obligations such as student-athlete revenue sharing. The position works alongside the department’s existing budget staff rather than replacing them: Athletics leadership retains authority over its priorities, while the Unit Business Officer provides budget oversight, reporting, and internal control accountable to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance. University-level central finance functions remain with the respective central offices, with whom the Unit Business Officer coordinates closely.
The Division of Business and Finance, led by the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance / Chief Financial Officer, stewards the university’s financial resources and provides the budget, accounting, treasury, procurement, facilities, human resources, public safety, and related services that sustain institutional operations. Within Business and Finance, Unit Business Officers are assigned to specific divisions, where they serve as embedded finance partners while remaining accountable to the Vice Chancellor. This position is assigned to the Department of Athletics, which administers the university’s NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics programs. Most of the Athletics budget is funded through student fees and institutional support and operates outside the state operating budget, which places particular weight on independent financial oversight and reporting.
No professional license or certification is required to perform the duties of this position.
Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies.
