Job summary

Hinterland Group in New York is seeking an experienced Pipelayer to install, connect and test sanitary and storm sewer lines on underground utility projects. You will work in the trench with the foreman, equipment operators and laborers to set pipe to line and grade, build manholes and service connections, and leave every run ready to pass inspection.

The role is full-time and field-based, reporting to the Utility Foreman / Superintendent.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as pipelayer on underground utility work, incl. sanitary or storm sewer.
• Ability to set pipe to grade using a pipe laser and grade rod.
• Working knowledge of trench safety and OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P.
• Able to read construction plans and do basic grade math.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction card (or able to obtain within 30 days).
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Comfortable working in all weather conditions, early starts and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Install gravity sewer, force main and storm pipe to plan line and grade.
• Read plans, profiles and cut sheets; check grade with lasers and survey stakes.
• Prepare pipe bedding; set and joint pipe; backfill to spec.
• Set precast manholes; build inverts and install connections.
• Install and test trench boxes; work under supervisor direction.
• Set up bypass pumping and flow control on active lines.
• Support CCTV testing and fix deficiencies found.
• Signal and guide excavator and loader operators safely.
• Locate and protect utilities; follow 811 marks and potholing rules.
• Keep tools and materials organized; report issues to foreman.
• Mentor laborers and train new crew members.
