Job summary

SEIU Local 1 in Kansas City, MO is hiring Organizers to build the power of low-wage workers across service industries and to participate in campaigns advancing healthcare, immigration, and education reform.

Responsibilities include conducting outreach, building relationships, identifying leaders, and guiding campaigns with communities and workers. Candidates should be flexible with hours and committed to social justice.

Qualifications

• Sharp communications skills.
• Basic writing and computer skills.
• The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• A car and a valid driver’s license are required.
• Williness to conduct house visits and site visits.
• Capacity to work independently and with a team.
• The ability to make and follow through on a work plan.
• Previous experience in union or community organizing is desirable.
• A demonstrated commitment to social justice is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct broad and intensive outreach to low-wage workers.
• Build one-on-one relationships with workers.
• Identify and develop leaders to guide campaigns.
• Conduct individual/group meetings with workers to discuss organizing campaigns.
• Motivate workers to take action.
• Engage workers in broader union efforts to pressure industries.
• Coordinate with workers to gather information for membership growth and mobilization.
• Involve community allies in organizing campaigns.
• Other duties as assigned.
