Job summary

SEIU Local 1 is hiring an Internal Organizing Coordinator in Kansas City, MO to lead and train teams for statewide campaigns. You will oversee operations, supervise staff, and drive efforts to organize thousands of workers while building power for working families.

The role requires at least five years directing campaigns, strong advocacy and public speaking skills, willingness to travel, and proficiency in MS Office and VAN. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Five+ years directing large union organizing campaigns.
• Experience running and planning organizer training.
• Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
• Excellent oral and written advocacy skills, including public speaking.
• Willingness to travel, work long irregular hours, nights and weekends.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software, preferably VAN.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with diverse groups.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
• Car and a valid driver’s license are required.

Responsibilities

• Train and develop teams of staff and members to carry out campaign plans.
• Oversee and supervise daily operations, including worksite visits and member involvement.
• Supervise and train Local staff on Internal Organizing, Leadership Development, and Contract Enforcement.
• Track performance of multiple teams and plan necessary training.
• Lead staff by example and hold organizers accountable for results.
• Create and manage campaigns in coordination with departments and union officers.
• Oversee campaigns to develop union markets and increase density above 80%.
• Assist in developing campaign plans and messaging for multiple regions.
• Articulate a positive vision of the project and the union.
• Coordinate large-scale actions involving member-leaders and stewards.
• Other duties as assigned (e.g., strike planning and support).
