Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies is seeking an Underwriter 1 who will learn basic underwriting concepts and apply them to new and renewal business in California. The role starts with comprehensive training and builds toward independent work with brokers and agencies.

This hybrid position requires initial onsite training and at least three days per work week in the San Francisco, CA office, with collaboration across teams to ensure accurate pricing, policy transactions, and superior client

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to learn software quickly.
• Ability to analyze data and communicate with clients.

Responsibilities

• Complete underwriting training and learn workers' compensation rules.
• Review applications for insurance coverage for pricing purposes.
• Determine quotations and communicate pricing within authority limits.
• Coordinate with teams to bind policies and manage agency relations.
• Visit agencies with senior underwriters to strengthen partnerships.
