Job summary

Markel in New York is seeking an Underwriting Support Specialist to join our underwriting team, handling day-to-day client servicing, workflow management and ensuring timely, accurate transactions.

You will gather information for underwriters, maintain suspense systems, communicate with agents and colleagues, and contribute to process improvement while pursuing an insurance designation (AINS).

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of underwriting support experience.
• Casualty insurance knowledge.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to pursue the AINS designation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as point of contact for agents/brokers, gathering information and assisting with low-complexity transactions.
• Obtain information to finalize inquiries and maintain a suspense/follow-up system for outstanding items.
• Ensure accuracy of information in all systems and documentation.
• Routinely communicate with team, agents/brokers and partners to research and complete transactions.
• Follow internal guidelines to process work timely, accurately and in compliance.
• Participate in problem solving to define problems, identify root causes and design solutions.
• Under Underwriter direction, attach forms and make policy changes as requested.
• Build relationships with clients and cross-functional teams; support special projects as needed.
