Underwriting Specialist/ Executive Underwriter, Excess Casualty

Position Overview

The primary purpose of this role is to underwrite new business and renewals profitably, within authority levels and guidelines, and to drive impactful projects. The role involves handling larger, complex accounts, using underwriting tools for classification and rates, understanding state laws, and managing coverage forms and policy language. The position also includes resolving premium audit disputes and mentoring less experienced underwriters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve customer satisfaction and service standards for brokers/agents.
  • Review, analyze, accept, and decline wholesale Excess Casualty risks, ensuring profitability.
  • Underwrite and select new business for profitability.
  • Interpret, explain, and educate on products and forms.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key producers, monitor profitability, production, and trends.
  • Maintain high customer service levels.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members.
Qualifications
  • 6-12 years of wholesale excess casualty underwriting experience in the Southeast US region.
  • Technical knowledge with progression of responsibility.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in Construction and/or General Casualty.
  • Established relationships with wholesale brokers in the SE region.
  • Degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Team player with a flexible approach.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
