Job summary

Great American Insurance Group's Specialty Human Services division is seeking an Underwriting Specialist to support the Northeast region. This fully remote role welcomes candidates in the Northeast or Illinois/Wisconsin, with a salary range of $90,000 to $125,000 and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities include underwriting new and renewal business, analyzing risk data, coordinating with actuaries, agents, and clients, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Travel is occasional as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, risk management, or related field.
• Typically 5+ years underwriting experience; professional designations preferred.

Our Specialty Human Services Division is seeking an Underwriting Specialist to join its team. This role supports the Northeast territory spanning Maine to Virgina. This position is fully remote, with a preference for candidates located in the Northeast or Illinois/Wisconsin.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

• Evaluates and underwrites new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.


• Analyzes risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.


• Collaborates with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details.


• Orders and reviews additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions.


• Ensures proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.


• Evaluates existing policies for potential renewal or modification.


• Communicates underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.


• Stays updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.


• Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business.


• Interprets, explains, and markets products and services.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience.


• Generally, 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or a related field. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates strong analytical skills with attention to detail.


• Position requires occasional travel.
