Job summary

FM, a leading mutual insurance company, seeks an Underwriter I or II in New York to support account managers on underwriting details, values analysis, pricing and policy terms while expanding expertise across FM’s risk-management competencies.

You will gain training in underwriting, build client and broker relationships, and advance toward an account manager role within a comprehensive benefits program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in the insurance industry with at least 2 years loss prevention engineering preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and manage diverse activities and workload.
• Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to account managers on underwriting details such as values analysis, line-setting, reinsurance needs and placement; including rating and pricing, analysis of coverage, terms and conditions, and cross-liability analysis.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of underwriting standards, policy forms and loss prevention practices; support the Client Service department.
• Assist in development and implementation of global insurance programs to meet customer needs, in line with company policies.
• Help account managers prepare and deliver internal and external meetings, proposals and servicing activities.
• Stay current on market trends, coverage, programs, reinsurance, and developments in the insurance market.
• Manage client and broker relationships.
• Progress to attain underwriting binding authority and develop toward an account manager role.
