Job summary

Penn State University’s ARL seeks Mechanical Engineers to join the Mechanical Systems Design Department within the Engineering Systems Research and Development Division. You will design, analyze, build, and test hardware for undersea applications, transitioning concepts to development and field deployment.

The role supports the development and testing of hardware and software systems for the United States Armed Forces and other government clients; on-site work in State College, PA is required

Qualifications

  • Experience designing machined components and subsystems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Proficiency in GD&T ANSI Y14.5.
  • Ability to develop test plans and procedures.
  • Experience packaging electromechanical assemblies.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements and develop innovative solution concepts.
  • Design structures, mechanisms, actuation systems, and bearing systems.
  • Work with design and drafting to create and approve drawings.
  • Develop assembly and test procedures.
  • Collaborate with technicians to assemble and test systems.
  • Support field testing.
  • Plan and lead technical tasks and teams for larger scope (senior level).
  • Mentor junior engineers in technical and project skills.
