Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University seeks highly motivated Systems Engineers to join the Systems Engineering Department in the Undersea Systems Office. This role focuses on the design, integration, and testing of physical undersea systems for defense hardware, not IT.

You will translate stakeholder needs into system-level requirements, support MBSE, model-based analysis, and participate in lab, dockside, and at-sea tests with Navy partners.

Qualifications

  • Applying systems engineering to complex physical systems.
  • Experience collaborating in multi-disciplinary, team-oriented cultures.
  • Ability to express ideas successfully to drive understanding.
  • Past success in writing white papers or reports.
  • Past success in leading multi-disciplinary teams and contributing to management.
  • Experience contributing to technical proposals and white papers.

Responsibilities

  • Translate stakeholder needs into system-level requirements and architectures.
  • Develop verification and validation strategies for physical prototypes and fielded systems.
  • Support MBSE, system modeling, and hardware/software integration.
  • Collaborate with Navy partners and program sponsors regularly.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for lifecycle decisions.
