Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory seeks Mechanical Engineers for the ARL Mechanical Systems Design Department. You will design, analyze, build, and test hardware for undersea applications from concept to development, supporting DoD and other government customers, with periodic travel and on-site work in State College, PA.

Qualifications

  • Design of complex machined components and subsystems.
  • 3D CAD design and engineering drawing development.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • GD&T ANSI Y14.5 proficiency.
  • Proficiency in free body diagrams and hand calculations.
  • Packaging of complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Development of test plans and procedures.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements, identify problems, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Design structures, mechanisms, actuation and bearing systems.
  • Work with design and drafting to create and approve drawings.
  • Develop assembly and test procedures.
  • Collaborate with technicians on assembly and testing of systems.
  • Support field testing.
