Job summary

Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) in State College, PA, seeks Research and Development Mechanical Engineers for the Energy Science and Power Systems (ESPS) Division. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science; 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Strong mechanical design and analysis fundamentals.
  • Experience with CAD software (NX/SolidWorks/Creo) and FEA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and improve complex mechanical designs from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with RD, additive manufacturing, and testing teams to resolve design challenges.
  • Support design reviews, prototype builds, and testing activities.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement, cost reduction, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Perform structural and thermal-fluid analysis using analytical methods and FEA.
