Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Ventilation Engineer for a major mining operator in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will design, implement and manage underground ventilation systems to maintain air quality, temperature and energy efficiency.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mining Engineering with a ventilation specialization and at least 5 years of underground experience, plus proficiency with Ventsim or Whittle. You will work on-site with cross-functional teams to optimize operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with ventilation specialization or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of underground mine ventilation experience.
• Proficiency with mine ventilation modeling software such as Ventsim and Whittle.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and air quality.
• Experience with health and safety legislation for mining environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize ventilation networks, including fans and ducting.
• Monitor air quality, dust, gases and temperature compliance.
• Perform heat and mass transfer calculations for underground spaces.
• Develop ventilation surveys and risk assessments.
• Maintain ventilation infrastructure and upgrades.
• Collaborate with planning, production and safety teams.
• Use ventilation modeling software to simulate airflow.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective measures.
• Aim for energy-efficient operation of ventilation systems.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations for management.
