Responsibilities
  • Mentor and develop the team by providing feedback and identifying training opportunities.
  • With the General Superintendent, efficiently add, coach/train, or remove manpower to meet project demands; structure job site crews for best execution and utilize foremen and field engineers when available to manage systems or phases.
  • Coach and develop direct reports to grow in their careers using tools like 3A+, field performance evaluations, and employee development plans; help identify future field leadership on projects.
  • Build a strong partnership with the Project Manager to facilitate collaboration among the field team, PM, and PE for project success; implement client color coding strategy and escalate changes as needed.
  • Foster trust and effective information sharing with the client’s team; establish connections with vendors, subs, and other trades to coordinate efforts and ensure project success; maintain collaboration with safety, prefab, and support operations.
  • Promote a safe and functional work environment by maintaining a clean, organized site; identify safety hazards and ensure proper PPE per project.
  • Assist in pre-planning and identify pre-fab opportunities; oversee daily production reporting, JHAs, timecards, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Monitor the project schedule, look-ahead, and productivity; collaborate with Foreman to set productivity goals related to budget and track progress.
  • Coordinate with GS on safety training requirements; ensure on-site safety, role clarity for field leaders, and safe task execution.
  • Perform or oversee preplanning activities and maintain work breakdown structure (WBS) and production plan; determine quantities, resources, and alignment with the schedule.
  • Review and update project schedules, WBS, and communications with PM; create BOM with PM buy-in and coordinate material on site.
  • Ensure all personnel perform work safely; review JHAs/THAs and ensure competent persons are on site; assign tasks based on skill and capability; communicate daily production goals and remove obstacles as needed.
  • Play an active role in employee development and disciplinary processes to foster growth and accountability.
  • Complete daily documentation (timecards, equipment utilization, daily reports, production tracking) in compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate on developing a strong project closeout and execution plan; adapt tasks based on project needs.
Requirements
Education & Experience
  • 8+ years of construction trade or project experience in the Civil or Electrical Underground industry, preferably with commercial and/or airport projects (e.g., duct banks, excavations, manholes, underground conduit, concrete, wet/dry utility installations).
  • Experience leading crews of 1–20 laborers and operators on projects ranging $1–$15 million or multiple projects.
  • Must be able to create, influence, and reinforce a best-in-class safety culture.
  • HS/GED required; OSHA 30-Hour certification.
  • Competent person tests/certifications as required; may be required to pass badging for airports, military bases, or schools (15 year Homeland Security fingerprint/background check).
  • 8+ years experience on underground utility construction projects; Airfield, Water, and Data Center experience a plus.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrate safety leadership traits by leading by example, planning safety into work, coaching others, and providing timely feedback on safety, quality, and production.
  • Forecast 3 to 12 months; proficient in scheduling (MS Project, P6).
  • Proven ability to manage projects with effective team coordination; capable of managing multiple tasks with strong follow-up and communication.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment; proficient with Excel and Bluebeam; ability to perform material takeoffs.
  • Travel throughout the US is beneficial; locations such as San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Denver are helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to delegate tasks and maintain role clarity for field leaders.
Safety & Physical Requirements
  • Must wear proper PPE on jobsites; comply with safety standards and complete safety observations and audits; work with GS and Safety Team for corrective actions.
  • Sit, stand, and walk during the workday; lifts and moves objects as required; assist with coordinating prefabrication and safety across teams.
Salary
  • $115,000/Year – 130,000/Year
  • This is an exempt position
