Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Network Mechanic D to assist with installation, maintenance, and inspection of underground transmission and distribution facilities. You will operate line trucks and related equipment, including working from bucket trucks and in enclosed spaces.

During the first six months you will demonstrate safe operation on de-energized systems, with potential to work on energized conductors up to 260 volts under supervision. Willingness to travel and overtime is required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• No experience required; line work experience preferred.
• Must have a valid state driver's license; CDL permit within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Operate Company equipment and work in enclosed spaces on de-energized conductors in initial months.
• Work from bucket trucks, ladders, and underground vaults with proper barricades and ventilation.
• Learn to perform personal rescue from bucket trucks and enclosed spaces.
• Install and maintain URD primary cable, splice and outdoor terminations.
• Identify cable types, voltages, and insulation PPE; understand grounding.
• Set up barricades, travel to job sites, and participate in training.
