Job summary

Stancil in Gastonia, NC is seeking a hands-on plumbing helper responsible for underground plumbing in new homes and townhomes. You will assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining water distribution and wastewater systems, and help prepare the work area for plumbers and pipefitters.

The role requires ability to read blueprints, measure and cut pipes, and collaborate with project managers to ensure efficient installations with minimal errors.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of tools and plumbing materials, including fitting sizes and piping types.
• Motivated and works well with others.
• OSHA10 preferred.
• Must pass a physical examination and obtain a medical card.
• Willingness to embrace change in a growing company.

Responsibilities

• Assist in installing and maintaining plumbing systems.
• Read blueprints and drawings to determine exact specifications and installation locations.
• Determine water supply networks and waste drainage systems.
• Coordinate with project manager on installation.
• Install systems to transport water, waste, gases, or liquids.
• Select materials needed for installation, including pipe type and size.
• Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment.
• Assemble and install valves and fittings.
• Observe pressure gauges to fix leaks.
• Test pipe systems and fix leaks.
• Ensure installations, repairs, and maintenance are properly sized and aligned.
• Experience reading drawings.
• Extensive knowledge of installing and maintaining plumbing systems.
• Safe working knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Work from ladders safely for extended periods.
• Measure, cut and assemble new pipe; place in hangers.
• Cut or drill holes to accommodate pipes.
• Perform rough-ins, repair/replace fixtures and water heaters, locate/repair/remove leaks.
• Assist plumbers in layout, assembly, and installation of fixtures and materials.
• Requisition tools and equipment; select pipe sizes; transport materials to site.
• Excavate and grade ditches; lay and join pipe for water/sewer.
• Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe.
