Job summary

The South Dakota Science and Technology Authority (SDSTA) owns and operates the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF). The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Field Technician is responsible for Emergency Medical Response, Rescue/Recovery Operations, Fire Mitigation, Health and Safety Inspections, Hazard Mitigation, and related duties as assigned.

Supports SURF safety programs for underground and surface activities, enabling safe scientific work.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and relevant emergency response experience.
• Certifications: MSHA Part 49 Mine Rescue, OSHA rescue standards, and Hazmat training desirable.
• Experience in mining, EMS, fire service, or industrial safety is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist ERT with training implementation and documentation.
• Perform emergency medical response and technical rescue duties as assigned.
• Conduct life safety inspections and hazardous materials response activities.
• Operate rescue and fire protection equipment and instrumentation as qualified.
