Job summary

Morton Salt, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer at Weeks Island to lead electrical capital and expense projects, from concept through commissioning, in both underground and surface mining environments.

This role collaborates with Operations and Maintenance to improve reliability, designs and reviews schematics, coordinates contractors, and ensures safety and regulatory compliance in all project activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum three years of electrical engineering experience in mining, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or a similar environment.
• Knowledge of industrial electrical power distribution and electrical equipment.
• Experience with switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, VFDs, and electrical protection systems.
• Experience with electrical design, equipment specification, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Ability to read and develop electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment.
• Knowledge of PLCs, instrumentation, and industrial controls.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute electrical capital and expense projects from design through installation, commissioning, and closeout.
• Provide engineering support for underground and surface mine electrical distribution systems and infrastructure.
• Support electrical systems including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and related mining equipment.
• Develop and review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
• Support power studies, including short-circuit, protective-device coordination, load-flow, and arc-flash analysis.
• Support PLCs, instrumentation, controls, and automation systems used in mining operations.
• Partner with Operations and Maintenance to troubleshoot electrical failures, perform root-cause analysis, and improve equipment reliability.
• Coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal resources performing electrical project work.
