Telecon is seeking an experienced Underground Construction Foreman to lead a fiber installation crew on MDU projects across the Puget Sound region, with sites in Issaquah and Federal Way, WA. You will read plans, stage personnel and equipment, and make field decisions when conditions differ from plans.

Expect 8–10 hour days, five days a week outdoors with real ownership over crew performance and project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years as foreman or crew lead in underground utility, civil, or fiber construction, incl. trench crews and fiber placement.
• Knowledge of underground conduit systems, handholes, vaults, duct systems, and fiber pathways.
• Ability to read construction plans, maps, and work orders; plan daily work and lead crews.
• Experience operating proofing, locating, and construction equipment such as excavators and skid steers.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills; outdoor work in all weather.

Job description

Telecon is looking for an experienced Underground Construction Foreman to lead a fiber construction crew supporting multi-dwelling unit (MDU) underground fiber projects across the Puget Sound region. This is a role for someone who's already run a crew and knows what that actually means day to day: reading the plan, staging the right people and equipment, and making the call when the ground doesn't match the paper.

You'll direct daily field operations for a small crew, from excavation and conduit placement to pushing fiberglass proofing rods through underground duct runs to confirm the path is clear before fiber ever goes in. It's hands-on, physical work, typically 8 to 10 hours a day, five days a week, and you'll be outside in whatever the Pacific Northwest throws at you that week. Rods bind, conduit doesn't always cooperate, and no two days look exactly the same. What you get in return is real ownership: your crew, your production numbers, and a direct line to the people making decisions on the project.

• Wage: $37.00 – $42.00 per hour w/ potential for overtime
• Shift/Schedule: Day shift, 7:00 AM start; typically 8 to 10 hours per day, five days a week

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a field crew of underground fiber construction laborers, assigning daily tasks, production goals, and crew responsibilities
• Review work orders, prints, and project documentation to plan safe, efficient execution of underground conduit and fiber placement work
• Conduct pre-task planning, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safety inspections, ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately
• Interpret construction drawings and determine appropriate installation methods, equipment, and tooling for conduit, handhole, vault, and duct system work
• Operate and direct the use of proofing and locating equipment, including pushing fiberglass rodding through underground conduit runs to confirm clear, continuous pathways before fiber installation
• Operate or oversee the operation of excavators, skid steers, and other construction equipment to support crew production
• Set up and manage traffic control on active job sites in accordance with applicable regulations and client requirements
• Coordinate equipment, materials, and vehicles to ensure the crew is properly staged and prepared each day
• Monitor production, quality, and schedule adherence, proactively resolving field issues and escalating as needed
• Act as the primary on-site point of contact with clients, inspectors, and internal operations leadership
• Support emergency or after-hours work as required by project needs
• Ensure proper care, maintenance, and inspection of assigned vehicles and equipment
• Review and approve crew time, production reporting, and related field documentation
• Mentor, train, and develop crew members to improve safety, skill, and performance
• Perform other duties as required to meet operational and project objectives

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a foreman or crew lead in underground utility, civil, or fiber construction, including trench crews, excavation, conduit and fiber placement, fiber pulling, or directional drilling
• Demonstrated knowledge of underground conduit systems, handholes, vaults, duct systems, and fiber pathways
• Strong understanding of underground utility practices, including the ability to operate proofing, locating, and construction equipment such as excavators and skid steers
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, maps, and work orders
• Proven ability to plan daily work, manage multiple priorities, and lead crews in the field
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional technical training in underground utility or telecommunications construction
• Prior experience with Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) or multi-dwelling unit (MDU) fiber projects specifically

This position requires successful completion of a background check and MVR review, as applicable.

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including trenching, excavation, conduit and fiber installation, and manual pushing of proofing rods and cable through underground conduit.
