We Search People is partnering with a civil construction contractor in Austin to appoint an experienced Estimator focused on underground utilities. The role involves taking ownership of competitive bids and contributing to a growing project pipeline across Central Texas.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in wet utilities, underground infrastructure, and site development, with proven ability to develop labor, material, and production-rate driven bids.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating civil construction projects, especially underground utilities.
• Ability to interpret civil drawings, specs, and utility plans.
• Familiarity with subcontractor pricing and bid development.
• Proficiency with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam).

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for underground utility and civil infrastructure projects.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for water, wastewater, storm drainage, and sitework.
• Review drawings, specs, and bid documents to identify project requirements.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Develop competitive bids covering labor, materials, equipment, and production rates.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership during bidding.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits when required.

We are partnered with an established civil construction contractor in Austin to appoint an experienced Estimator to their growing preconstruction team, with a specific focus on underground utilities.

This opportunity is ideal for an Estimator with a strong background in wet utilities, underground infrastructure, and site development projects who is looking to take ownership of competitive bids and contribute to a growing project pipeline across Central Texas.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for underground utility and civil infrastructure projects.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for water, wastewater, storm drainage, and associated sitework.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify project requirements.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Develop competitive bids covering labor, materials, equipment, and production rates.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership throughout the bidding process.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits when required.

Requirements

• Previous estimating experience within civil construction, ideally with an underground utilities contractor.
• Strong understanding of wet utilities, including water mains, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and lift stations.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, or similar.
• Ability to interpret civil drawings, specifications, and utility plans.
• Knowledge of local construction practices, production rates, and subcontractor pricing.
