About the Position:
The Undergraduate Recruitment and Engagement Specialist providesadministrative, logistical, and recruitment support to therecruitment and outreach function, within the Costello College ofBusiness Undergraduate Programs team. The position professionallyrepresents the Costello College of Business during all admissionand recruitment events, both on- and off-campus; in the support andgrowth of the Business Learning Community; events where campuspartners, alumni, and dignitaries are present; and during meetingsand events with other campus constituents. This position aids inthe support of new, current, and returning students through thefull spectrum of their George Mason University experience, in a faste-paced environment subject to multiple demands and changingconditions to support the Costello College of Business.
Administrative Recruitment Support and Outreach:
- Assistance with day-to-day operations of UndergraduateRecruitment and Engagement, to include outreach via phone, email,and mass communication systems, constituent engagement andmanagement, and other administrative tasks;
- Expands and maintains freshmen student populationpipelines;
- Remains abreast of industry trends with regard to freshmenstudent recruitment and opportunities;
- Expands and maintains transfer student population pipelinesfrom NOVA and other VCCS campuses;
- Continually researches new pathways for students to transfer tothe Costello College of Business;
- Furthers and expands ADVANCE specific recruitment events andinitiatives;
- Serves as liaison between ADVANCE and College of BusinessRecruitment and Academic Advising teams;
- Increases Admissions events, both on- and off-campus;
- Establishes semi-regular campus presence at regional communitycolleges;
- Coordinates and conducts prospective student appointments andgroup information sessions; and
- Pre-advises transfer student populations, in coordination withAcademic Advisors and College of Business policies.
Event Planning and Coordination:
- Coordinates recruitment events including fairs, open houses,and on-site visits;
- Coordinates staffing, orders, and logistical planning forevents;
- Develops and implements Shadow Day opportunities for highschool students and community partners;
- Plans at least one "NOVA Night" in partnership with NOVA staffper semester;
- Develops events at other VCCS and community college campuses tohighlight programs and support transfer pathways; and
- Collaborates with stakeholders for central and college-specificrecruitment activities targeted at first-time freshmen. These mayinclude targeted admissions events hosted by central EnrollmentManagement.
Support Student Leadership Council (SLC):
- Supports SLC including all staffing needs of the function;
- Provides guidance and mentorship for SLC members throughouttheir tenure;
- Furnishes meetings, agendas, and trainings for members toremain well informed; and
- Secures volunteers for each prospective student admissionsevent.
Collaboration with College of Business StudentServices:
- Continuous collaboration with student services within the unitto assure proper policies, scope of services, and events arecommunicated to all prospective students and guests;
- Serves as a liaison between Admissions Counselors and Collegeof Business Academic Advisors; and
- In coordination with Academic Advisors, hosts transferworkshops for transfer and ADVANCE student populations.
Liaison to College and University Constituents:
- Represents Undergraduate Recruitment and Engagement toUniversity and College partners, to include Marketing andCommunications, Enrollment Management and Marketing, College ofBusiness Minor Programs, University Admissions, Housing andResidence Life, Alumni Relations, College of Business Development,and academic partners;
- Serves as liaison between MarCom and recruitment teams, whileassisting with marketing and communication projects as assigned;and
- Continuously collaborates with campus partners to provideexperiential learning programs and opportunities to College ofBusiness students.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combinationof education and experience;
- Experience in a higher education environment, preferably withinadmissions, recruiting, or enrollment management;
- Familiarity with student affairs and admissions/enrollmentmanagement processes;
- Knowledge of recruitment and admission trends within highereducation, community colleges, adult student outreach, andcertificate programs;
- Excellent customer service skills, as this function frequentlyinteracts with guests, students, and community partners in-personand virtually;
- Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills,and excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of allapplications in Microsoft Office, electronic calendaring, e-mail,University applications such as Banner, MicroStrategy, andSalesforce, College applications and files, andAdmissions/University databases and reporting formats;
- Ability to work independently and complete multiple taskswithin tight deadlines;
- Must have the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in a highly visible office;
- Ability to provide timely and relevant input concerningexternal relations activities, meetings, and events, as well as toact for the good of the Undergraduate Recruitment and Outreach teamand the College in a wide variety of situations;
- Ability to learn and adapt in new, fast-pacedenvironments;
- Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment andin support of all levels of college/institutional leadership;and
- Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motorvehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements foroperating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle UsePolicy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review thedriver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of allcandidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorablereview.
