Responsibilities

• Delivers essential library instruction and information literacy sessions and cultivates partnerships to integrate the Libraries’ services in curricula and research projects.
• Develops, designs, and creates scaffolded instructional content like workshops, presentations, and digital learning objects.
• Researches and implements best practices for designing online learning resources (modules, videos, guides).
• Contributes to standards for information literacy instruction and builds sustainable improvement processes.
• Uses data to strategize outreach and identify collaboration opportunities.
• Supports Outreach and Open Education & Research Mavericks teams in targeted outreach.

Purpose of Position

The Undergraduate Instruction Librarian works collaboratively and in partnership with colleagues who empower student success and faculty excellence. The UIL librarian advances the University’s and Libraries’ strategic plans by fostering excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, and learning through impactful engagement and outreach. This position is a part of the Undergraduate Instruction Unit within the Reference, Instruction, and Open Education (RIO) Department and reports to the Manager for Undergraduate Instruction. The librarian works collaboratively with other members of the RIO department to support and promote undergraduate student success and open education.

Essential Functions

General Instruction & Digital Learning Object Creation

• Develops, designs, and creates scaffolded instructional content in the form of workshops, presentations, and digital learning objects in collaboration with colleagues in the Undergraduate Research and Instruction and Undergraduate Success units and across the Libraries to meet the information, media, and data literacy needs of undergraduate students and faculty.
• Delivers essential library instruction and information literacy sessions and workshops and cultivates partnerships with faculty, staff, and administration to integrate the Libraries’ services and resources in curricula and research projects.
• Researches and implements best practices for the design and creation of teaching and online learning resources such as online modules, instructional videos, and online guides.
• Contributes to the standards for information literacy instruction for librarians and implements sustainable processes for iterative improvements in response to emerging needs and trends.
• Utilizes data from various sources to strategize outreach efforts and identify opportunities for partnerships.
• Supports and promotes the Outreach and Open Education & Research Mavs teams in targeted outreach.

Undergraduate Research Support

• Collaborates with other librarians in the RIO department to provide course-specific instruction.
• Develops and maintains broad knowledge of discipline‑specific resources to provide instructional and consultation support across various disciplines.
• Assesses need for course and/or subject‑specific learning resources and creates sustainable digital learning objects.
• Contributes to the timely collection of data for program and organizational assessment.

Professional Development

• Contributes to the fields of librarianship and higher education and their own professional development through service, research, presenting, and publishing. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA‑accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) to two (2) years of experience in teaching or instructional design, or equivalent coursework.
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience creating digital learning objects that meet accessibility guidelines.
• Track record of participation in or development of innovative academic literacy programs, particularly those that use technology to enhance student learning and/or success.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of information literacy standards, frameworks, and best practices.
• Strong understanding of multiple literacies, open scholarship, and e‑learning pedagogy.
• Familiarity with digital learning tools and applications, as well as educational technology.
• Ability to teach both groups and individuals effectively in person and online.
• Knowledge of a range of digital scholarship tools, technologies, and platforms.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with people of different backgrounds in a team‑based environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and other common office software.

Work Schedule

• Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
• Occasional hours might be worked outside of normal working hours due to course meeting times or other events.
• Flexibility is required to ensure the department is appropriately staffed in order to satisfy all service needs.
• Professional development, conferences, and training may require travel and/or overnight accommodations.
• This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule.
