Job summary

Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY is seeking an Admissions Counselor, Undergraduate Admission. This entry-level role supports undergraduate recruitment, reviews freshman applications, and builds relationships with high schools, counselors, prospective students, and parents.

Evening and weekend hours may be required to support events. A valid driver’s license and familiarity with admissions software such as Ellucian Banner and Slate are preferred to help manage communications and pipelines.

Qualifications

• 0–1 years of related admissions experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Familiarity with computerized admissions and financial aid systems.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conducts presentations with visiting students, parents, and high school counselors regarding admission and financial aid process, policies, and procedures.
• Maintains communication with prospective students from across the country via email, phone, and text message through all stages of the recruitment and admission process.
• Speaks to groups and individual students and meets with school officials to develop partnerships between the University and high schools throughout an assigned geographic region.
• Interviews prospective students and candidates for admission.
• Represents the University Admissions Office at evening college fairs, college nights, and admissions panels.
• Serves as the primary contact and reader of applications for admission for designated applicant pool(s).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
