Job summary

The University of Houston seeks an academic advisor in the Dean, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences department in Houston, TX. You will provide basic advising to undergraduate students, help with degree requirements and course selection, and refer students to tutoring, counseling, and financial aid resources.

With supervision, you will support registration, schedule planning, orientation and onboarding programs, maintain student records, and respond to routine inquiries.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline.
• Knowledge of one or more professional disciplines via formal education or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

• Advise enrolled and prospective students regarding academic programs and curriculum.
• Deliver general academic advising on degree requirements, course selection, and policies.
• Assist students with registration and schedule planning.
• Refer students to tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and other campus resources.
• Maintain accurate student records in advising systems.
• Support orientation and onboarding programs.
• Respond to routine student inquiries via email and appointments.
• May assist in recruiting high school and community college students and present at events.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
