Job summary

3M is seeking an Undergraduate Industrial Design Intern for Summer 2027 in the Safety & Industrial Business Group (SIBG). The role runs a 10–12 week internship with typical full-time hours, onsite at 3M Center, Maplewood, MN.

Interns gain hands-on experience across product design, prototyping, research, and cross‑functional collaboration, with mentorship and onboarding. You will work with Industrial Designers, Engineers, Marketers and Product Managers to translate user needs into practical

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Industrial Design from an accredited institution.
• Experience using 3D CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Industrial Designers, Engineers, Marketing, Product Managers and cross-functional partners to understand user needs and develop concepts.
• Build prototypes and CAD models, and communicate design ideas through renderings, sketches and documentation.
• Participate in design reviews, workshops, and cross-functional project discussions to refine concepts.
• Apply ergonomic and usability principles to improve product comfort, fit, usability and productivity.
