The Unbox / Put Away Lead is responsible for leading the daily unboxing, inspection, put-away, and storage of inbound materials to ensure accurate and efficient inventory management while supporting uninterrupted manufacturing operations. This role provides hands-on leadership to the Unbox and Put Away team, ensuring materials are properly received, verified, identified, stored, and transacted within the ERP/WMS system in accordance with company procedures and inventory control standards.
The ideal candidate has experience in warehouse operations within a manufacturing environment, strong inventory management knowledge, ERP/WMS experience, and proven leadership skills in a fast-paced, high-volume operation.
Key Responsibilities
Unboxing & Receiving Support
- Lead daily unboxing activities for inbound materials, components, and production supplies.
- Ensure incoming materials are unpackaged safely and inspected for visible damage, accuracy, and completeness.
- Verify materials against packing lists, purchase orders, and receiving documentation.
- Identify and elevate discrepancies, shortages, damaged materials, or labeling issues.
- Ensure proper handling of ESD-sensitive, fragile, or hazardous materials where applicable.
Put Away Operations
- Lead the timely put-away of materials into designated warehouse locations to maintain production readiness.
- Ensure materials are properly labeled, identified, and stored according to company procedures.
- Maintain accurate location control and inventory transactions within ERP/WMS systems.
- Ensure FIFO, lot traceability, serial number tracking, and inventory integrity are maintained.
- Coordinate replenishment of warehouse and production storage locations.
Inventory Control
- Perform and oversee inventory audits, cycle counts, and location verification activities.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and assist with corrective actions.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and maintain organized warehouse storage locations.
- Support physical inventory counts and inventory reconciliation activities.
- Ensure all inventory movements are accurately recorded within ERP/WMS systems.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to Unbox and Put Away Associates.
- Assign workloads based on inbound material volume and production priorities.
- Train employees on warehouse procedures, inventory transactions, safety requirements, and material handling standards.
- Monitor productivity, accuracy, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Assist supervisors with scheduling, staffing, and performance feedback.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and warehouse operating procedures.
- Promote proper use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment using 5S principles.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, inventory control procedures, and material handling requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve receiving, unboxing, storage, and put-away processes.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with warehouse layout optimization to improve material flow and storage efficiency.
- Track and report KPIs such as put-away accuracy, inventory accuracy, receiving productivity, and on-time material availability.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of warehouse, receiving, inventory control, or material handling experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience leading or coordinating warehouse personnel.
- Experience using ERP, WMS, or inventory management systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, JD Edwards, or similar).
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory accuracy, receiving, and material flow.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electronics manufacturing, EMS, semiconductor, automotive, or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience using handheld RF scanners, barcode systems, and mobile warehouse devices.
- Familiarity with Kanban, Min/Max inventory systems, and warehouse replenishment processes.
- Experience handling ESD-sensitive electronic components and controlled inventory.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
- Ability to bend, reach, squat, climb, and perform repetitive material handling tasks.
- Work in a warehouse and manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and moderate noise levels.
