The Kitting Lead is responsible for leading daily kitting operations to ensure production materials are accurately picked, staged, and delivered to manufacturing lines in accordance with production schedules. This role provides hands-on leadership to the kitting team while maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring material traceability, and supporting efficient production flow in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate has experience in warehouse and kitting operations, inventory control, ERP/MES systems, and team leadership, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Kitting Operations
- Lead daily kitting activities to ensure production materials are picked, verified, staged, and delivered on time.
- Prioritize kitting assignments based on production schedules and changing manufacturing requirements.
- Ensure kits are complete, accurate, and available to production without delays.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Warehouse, Inventory Control, and Receiving teams to support manufacturing needs.
- Monitor workflow to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
Inventory & Material Management
- Verify material availability and coordinate replenishment of kit components.
- Ensure inventory transactions are completed accurately within ERP and MES systems.
- Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, material verification, and discrepancy resolution.
- Ensure FIFO, lot traceability, serial number tracking, and proper material identification are maintained.
- Monitor shortages and escalate potential material issues before they impact production.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to Kitting Associates.
- Assign workloads and monitor productivity to meet operational goals.
- Train new employees on kitting procedures, inventory processes, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Assist the supervisor with performance feedback and scheduling as needed.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure kits meet quality standards before release to production.
- Verify proper handling of ESD-sensitive components and other controlled materials.
- Ensure compliance with work instructions, manufacturing procedures, and company quality standards.
- Support internal audits and corrective actions related to material handling and inventory accuracy.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Promote compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment using 5S principles.
- Identify opportunities to improve kitting processes, material flow, and productivity.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including kit accuracy, on-time delivery, productivity, and inventory accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in warehouse, kitting, inventory control, or material handling within a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience leading or coordinating a warehouse or kitting team.
- Experience using ERP, MES, or Warehouse Management Systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, JD Edwards, or similar).
- Strong understanding of inventory control, material flow, and production support.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while managing multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting electronics manufacturing, EMS, semiconductor, automotive, or high-volume manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with barcode scanners, RF devices, and handheld inventory systems.
- Familiarity with Kanban, Min/Max inventory systems, and pull replenishment.
- Experience handling ESD-sensitive electronic components.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.
- Ability to bend, reach, squat, and perform repetitive material handling tasks.
- Work in a warehouse and manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
