Job description

Job Summary

Location: Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) • Shift: Days (United States) • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 • Worker Type: Regular • Exemption Status: No

Sign‑on bonus of $25,000 for eligible applicants. $6/hr premium on top of the base pay rate.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure correct order is obtained, patient identified and prepared for exam, and clinical history is documented and confidential.
  • Use appropriate imaging protocol, optimize technical factors, and maximize patient safety applying ALARA principles.
  • Prepare, administer, and document medication activities as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluate images for proper positioning and technical quality, verify archival storage/transfer of data.
  • Educate and monitor students and other health care providers.
  • Collaborate with a licensed practitioner in sonographic interventional procedures.
  • Ensure equipment parameters for diagnostic and interventional procedures meet optimal technical and administrative quality.
  • Perform diagnostic, interventional, sonographic procedures as prescribed or during educational activities.
  • Review symptoms and medical history to determine correct exam; evaluate orders and requests to assure correct scheduling.
  • Perform noninvasive vascular laboratory tests as applicable.
  • Provide preliminary interpretation of test results, include disease level, incidental findings, and need for additional testing, reporting to provider.
  • Maintain compliance with job‑specific obligations and organization policies.
Qualifications

Certification (required on hire): American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a sonographer or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification. Additional credentials as listed below.

  • Radiology: ARDMS (preferred ABD, OB/GYN) credential.
  • Vascular: ARDMS (RVT) or RVS credential, must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine: ARDMS (OB/GYN) required.
  • Adult Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) certificate required within 6 months.
  • Pediatric Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) preferred.
  • Interim credential advancement: graduated after March 10, 2024 must advance to Level2 within 24 months.

Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program‑Radiologic Technology (Required). Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Preferred).

Experience: Minimum 1 year related work experience (Preferred).

Certification & Licence: Basic Life Support Certification; Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS); Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS); Sonography (S) by ARRT.
