Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer responsible for performing echocardiographic examinations and ensuring the proper operation of the echocardiography laboratory. This role involves collaborating with licensed practitioners and educating healthcare providers.

Job Summary

Responsible for technical duties necessary for echocardiographic examinations and maintaining the normal operation of the adult echocardiography laboratory. Cardiac sonographers independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in completing various cardiac imaging procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure correct order, patient identification, preparation, and documentation of clinical history while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilize appropriate imaging protocols and optimize technical parameters while maximizing patient safety and applying ALARA principles.
  • Prepare and administer medication or ultrasound enhancing agents through vascular access sites in accordance with regulations and institutional policy.
  • Evaluate image quality, verify archival storage, and conduct post‑processing if applicable.
  • Educate and monitor students and other healthcare providers.
  • Communicate abnormal or unexpected findings to the licensed provider to prioritize additional testing or urgency of care.
  • Collaborate with licensed practitioner in performing sonographic interventional procedures.
  • Maintain equipment parameters for diagnostic and interventional procedures in accordance with request by the licensed practitioner.
  • Participate in modality quality or process improvement activities and approved research projects.
  • Assist in structural heart procedures as needed.
Qualifications
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a sonographer or ARDMS/CCI certification, including Adult Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) or CCI credential.
  • Minimum of 2years of related work experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) preferred.
Schedule & Hours

Monday through Friday, 7:30a.m. – 4:00p.m. (primarily). Occasional early start times and some travel may be required.

Education

Graduate from a Specialty Training Program or Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
